Vascular Surgeon Responsibilities
The functions and responsibilities of the Vascular Surgeon include but are not limited to the following- Provide direct patient care in the outpatient clinics, in-patient settings, operating rooms and the emergency room settings. Vascular surgeon will be responsible for the initial evaluation and overall workups, history and physicals, and admission of vascular surgery patients as needed. Responsible for providing patients with education concerning their disease state and expected treatment regimen. The Vascular Surgeon rotates with other physicians on a regular basis as needed. He/She also works on-call as priorities demonstrate a need. Will contribute to the educational activities of the Department of Vascular surgery at the academic affiliate (University of Health Science Center) by working with and supervising fellows, residents and medical students. Referral, when indicated, of patients with complex health problems to other providers within the medical center or to other Medical Centers. Consultations with physicians and others , when requested to augment the care of their patients. Ensures quality assurances of the service and the delivery of healthcare by participating in service, care-line, and institutional peer reviews; gathering and responding to reports of contact, incident reports, signed statements, and customer service complaints; and, participating in root cause analysis. Administrative duties will be specific to Vascular Surgery/Surgical Service as designated by Chief of Surgery to include preventative medicine, emergency preparedness, completion of all Medical Center required education including BLS and ACLS, to ensure that all activities comply with all Joint Commission and medical center requirements. Participates effectively in team meetings and various committees such as treatment planning conferences and other required care-line an institutional assigned committees. Other assigned duties by the Chief of Staff within clinical privileges to meet the needs of the organization. Outstanding interpersonal skills are essential. The position reports directly to the Chief of Surgical Service.
